Match reports 22/10/16

Warrington women’s second team secured a convincing 3-0 win away against Sale thirds on Saturday. Molly Rudd opened the scoring early in the second half and Tammy Finlayson scored her first goal for the club before Molly grabbed her second to secure the win. Right back Celina McElvey was awarded player of the match for her fantastic debut performance. The men’s first team took the lead against Lytham St Anne’s second team when a neat pass from Thomas Lloyd put Adam Garrod through to score. After Lytham equalised Warrington had a succession of short corners as they pushed to win the game but were repeatedly denied by great reaction saves from the keeper. The women’s first team absorbed a lot of pressure from a young Alderley Edge second team but conceded three goals from short corners. Warrington stepped up a gear for the last 20 minutes, showing their intent for the rest of the season and fighting back to 2-3 with goals from Kate Connolly and Steph Rawlins. The men’s second team suffered the same fate as others in their league when facing the full strength of runaway league leaders Liverpool John Moores University first team. Warrington put in a spirited performance in the 8-2 defeat, with Nick Bottomley impressing again and Gavin Brown and Rich Hannibal finding the back of the net.
