Match reports 16/03/19

Warrington men's first team put in a blistering performance against Preston, with captain Ben Vickers scoring an impressive five goals in their 8-0 win. Warrington took the lead after two minutes through Vickers and it was one way traffic from then on, with Richard Cook setting up numerous attacks through his aerial passes. Scott McCue burst through midfield to set up Bertie Houghton for a goal and Jordan Callum finished calmly to further extend the lead. A drag flick goal by Cook from a penalty corner rounded off the win in style. The ladies' first team ended a great season with a disappointing defeat against Neston seconds and just missed out on promotion to Division 1. Warrington displayed some great play despite the driving wind and rain throughout the whole match. The defence with Dawn Harrington and Kirsty Anderson worked very hard to try and keep the Neston forwards out but found themselves 2-0 down at half time despite Tracy Jackson saving multiple shots and with Player of the Match Carrie Wright clearing off the line. The second half saw much more supportive play from Warrington making several runs into the Neston D by Ffion Harris and Steph Rawlins who attempted a 1:1 with the keeper but to no avail. Neston were awarded a penalty flick due to Holly McCurrie saving a shot on goal with her chin and the final score was 4-0. The ladies' seconds were unfortunate to concede two early goals to Neston thirds, with Player of the Match Hannah Johnson putting in a solid performance, chasing down the ball in midfield. Despite having the upper hand in short corner opportunities Warrington were unable to capitalise and the final score ended 4-0 to Neston. The men's second team put their hearts and souls into their game against Bebington, hoping to move up to mid table, but instead lost 4-1. Warrington took the lead in the first half but were 3-1 down with 15 minutes to go when they won a penalty flick to give them a fighting chance. Captain Dan Sutton missed the flick though and although Warrington fought valiantly to the end they were unable to close the gap.
