Match reports 19/01/19

Warrington women's hockey first team surprised league leaders Brooklands-Poynton with an excellent performance, holding them to a 1-1 draw thanks to some top class defending from Carrie Wright and Dawn Harrington. Tracy Jackson made a sensational save from a penalty stroke to keep things locked at 0-0 and followed it up with several more stops to secure the Player of the Match award. Warrington took the lead through Emma McCue and continued to create chances throughou Nat Lyons and Sally Fraser in midfield, but couldn't quite fin the net a second time. Eventually Brooklands pulled level and it took some crucial clearances from Holly McCurrie and Kirsty Anderson to ensure the point.

The men's second team fought hard at Winnington Park and were unlucky not to score as they fell to a 1-0 defeat in a game where Chris Lyon impressively cleared an aerial ball off the line. Douglas Samuels had the chance of the game when he broke from midfield to go through 1v1 with the keeper but was fouled to deny him a goal. Ben Brown caused Winnington problems down the right wing while Edward Pugh and Constantinos Kanaris continued to grow into their roles in the team. The women's second team lost 4-0 away to Lymm. Warrington defended well early on but Lymm managed to break the deadlock and go into the lead. The second half was a much better performance for Warrington and they were unlucky in not being able to convert some attacking short corners. Centre mid Molly Rudd earner player of the match after lots of hard work across the pitch.

The men's firsts were frozen off against Bolton.
