Warrington women's hockey teams both got off to a flying start to 2017 with 4-1 wins. The first team opened the scoring against Chester 2nds through Steph Rawlins before being pegged back to 1-1 shortly after half time. Jayne Buck put them back into the ahead with a powerful strike from a short corner. Carrie Wright and Kirsty Anderson were called into action in defence before goals from Marian Taig and another from Rawlins made the game safe. Becky Miller scored first for the second team after a sweep into the D from Laura Page. Lauren Hayes put Jess Palmer through to calmly slot home the second goal. Warrington came out strongly after half time with Vicky Stout scoring twice, first from a well rehearsed short corner and then from a great solo dribble. The men's second team fought hard against tough opposition from second placed City of Manchester 3rds. The 5-1 defeat didn't fairly reflect their efforts, with four of the goals coming from short corners. Nick Bottomley put in another Player of the Match performance in his debut season and Adam Garrod nicked one back with a stunning finish.
