It was a fantastic weekend for the women of Warrington Hockey Club with both teams recording deserved victories. The firsts took the lead in the first half against a young Bowdon team through a calm finish from captain Kate Connolly. Warrington wobbled for a while and were indebted to Sarah Gregson's exceptional defending to maintain their lead. They stepped it up a gear in the second half with some slick passing moves involving Emma Barlow and Sally Froggatt helping to set up Steph Rawlins for two goals and Barlow for the last in the 4-1 win. The seconds pulled off their best performance of the season to beat table-toppers Macclesfield 2-1 away. Great build up play from Abi Hynes and Vicky Stout paved the way for Tammy Finlayson to put Warrington ahead. Emma Frew dribbled along the back line to set Laura Page up for the second and keeper Jen Herst made a series of crucial saves to secure the Player of the Match award. The men's first team had two games, narrowly losing the first 3-2 to Liverpool Uni. Ben Vickers brought Warrington back level after a poor start and they took the lead through Tom Lloyd's fine deflection of an Adam Garrod cross, but Liverpool Uni struck back twice to seal the win. Warrington travelled to Kirkby Lonsdale on Sunday for an end to end game in which Ben Vickers and Adam Garrod both scored from well-struck short corners. Matt Pettit put Warrington level before they had a last minute goal disallowed and had to settle for the draw. The men's second team went down to a 3-0 defeat to relegation rivals Prescott.
