Match reports 14/10/17

Warrington's four hockey teams were undefeated in a great weekend for the club. The women's first team beat Rhyll 7-0 with most of the midfield and forward line finding the back of the net in a dominant second half display. Meg Sutch put Warrington ahead early on, but it wasn't until much later that Warrington found their killer instinct as Player of the Match Jayne Buck netted three times and captain Louise Unsworth scored from a short cornere. Katie Connolly and Sally Froggatt finished off the scoring to move Warrington up to seventh in Division 1. The women's second team had a thrilling come back against Triton seconds to win 4-3. Warrington went into half time 3-1 down, with Jenny Fox scoring for Warrington. A good half time team talk and some tactical changes saw Warrington have a much better second half. Player of the match Vicky Stout made an impact in the centre and great team goals saw Molly Rudd get a second half hat trick. Triton continued to press but Warrington held out for the win and third place in the league.

The men's second team put in a great performance against Runcorn, keeping a clean sheet as they won 2-0. Iain Richards made an impressive drive from deep in his own half, passing out wide to Gavin Brown who crossed the ball for Rich Hannibal to finish calmly. Richard Bloomfield was called into action in goal and Mark Hooper, Billy Gilbert and Rich Taylor had to battle to keep Warrington ahead before Mark Hooper sealed the game with a short corner goal. The men's firsts were determined to get a result University of Liverpool seconds and went ahead in the first half with a cool finish from Adam Garrod at the top of the D. Despite resolute defending and some outstanding saves from Roger Parr, the Uni team finally broke through to equalise.
