Match reports 11/11/17

Warrington Hockey Club had another successful weekend with three wins out of four matches. The men's second team were the biggest winners of the day as they dominated the game against Golborne to win 4-0. Richard Hannibal, Gavin Brown and Nick Bottomley put them 3-0 up by half time. Golborne rallied in the second half but Chris Lyon, Billy Gilbert and Bottomley were too strong in midfield and youngster Jake Galvin scored his first ever goal with a calm finish. The men's first team put in a much improved performance than the previous week despite not having any substitutes. Scott McCue stepped in at left back and looked comfortable, while both Adam Garrod and Ben Vickers continued their goal-scoring streaks to put Warrington 2-0 up. Golborne nicked a goal back and it needed stand in captain Vickers to clear a short corner off the line in the last minute to secure the win.

Warrington Ladies 2s won a well fought game against Neston 3s on Saturday, winning 2-1. Warrington pressed from the start but were unfortunate to concede midway through the first half. Warrington’s midfield continued to worked tirelessly and centre mid Lauren Hayes earned player-of the match. A great ball from Amy Quayle was neatly put away by Molly Rudd to make it 1-1 on the stroke of half time. The second half remained tight between the two teams. Olivia Mason and Celina McElevey were both strong in defence, saving numerous short corners, whilst a series of great saves from goalkeeper Tish Edwards kept Neston at bay. Warrington continued to press until the end and were rewarded when Molly Rudd netted her second of the game after a fantastic hit on goal with just a minute remaining on the clock. The women's first team put up a valiant display against high flying Alderley Edge seconds. Alderley went ahead early on before Warrington clicked into gear with some great passing moves involving Meg Sutch and Vicky Stout. Steph Rawlins and Carrie Wright were outstanding in defence whilst Marian Taig and Sally Fraser excelled in midfield, but Alderley scored twice more in the second half to send Warrington home without a point.
