Match report 24/02/18

Warrington men's seconds beat Golborne thirds 2-1 in a closely fought game. Warrington got off the mark after a good spell of pressure when Mark Hooper scored from a short corner before Golborne equalised from another short. Warrington grabbed the winner with ten minutes to go when Gavin Brown's lung-busting run kept the ball in play to set up captain Dan Sutton to slot it through the keeper's legs. The women's seconds drew 1-1 with Neston thirds after dominating the first half with pressure from Vicky Stout, Abi Hynes and Emily Palmer. Warrington broke the deadlock when Molly Rudd deflected home Stout's hit into the D. Neve Bradshaw was excellent in goal but couldn't prevent Neston's equaliser shortly after half time. The women's firsts put in a gutsy performance against top of the league Alderley Edge seconds as the battled to retain their Division 1 status and were unlucky to lose 1-0. Sally Froggatt got Player of the Match for her defensive display as Warrington repelled much of the Edge pressure. The men's first team had a tough trip to Leyland with only ten players available. Warrington did well to go into half time at 1-1 thanks to a stunning goal from Ben Vickers. In the second half Leyland used their man advantage well and ran out 4-1 winners despite the Warrington players running tirelessly.
