Warrington Hockey Club women's first team got their season off to a good start under the leadership of new captain Carrie Wright with a 3-2 win over Knutsford. Warrington motored into a 2-0 lead with goals from Meg Sutch from a short corner and Tammy Finlayson slotting home after a goal-mouth scramble. Jo Nordovics and Sally Fraser linked up well in central midfield and Emma Barlow scored the third after a run down the right wing. Knutsford pulled a couple of goals back in the second half but Warrington's defence held firm for the win. The seconds visited Winnington Park but with only 10 players against a team with subs it was always going to be hard. The midfield of Becky Miller, Molly Rudd, Lauren Hayes and Abi Hynes continued to press and Warrington fought hard but were unlucky to go into the break 1-0 down. Warrington tired in the second half and Winnington pushed on with their player advantage to win 4-0.
