Match reports 29/09/18

Warrington Hockey Club got back to winning ways this week as three out of four teams emerged victorious. The men's first team had the most comfortable game, beating a very young Formby thirds 8-0. Ben Vickers scored six goals, Adam Garrod deservedly netted after good perseverance throughout the game and Rob Powell scored in his first game of the season. After a nervy start against Deeside, the men's seconds reversed the deficit to eventually win the game 7-4. Mark Hooper scored with a neat finish from a short corner followed by hat-tricks from Dominic Bain and Gavin Brown. It was a gutsy team performance with a promising debut from Constantinos Kanaris.

The women's firsts soaked up early pressure from Wilmslow before demonstrating clinical finishing from short corners to go two nil up through Emma Barlow and Meg Sutch. Wilmslow pulled one back shortly before half time despite Holly McCurrie putting her body on the line with some heroic defending. Tammy Finlayson slotted home from Kate Connolly's pass to restore the two goal lead and inspirational goal keeping from Player of the Match Tracy Jackson secured the points. The women's seconds lost 2-1 to Wilmslow thirds despite playing some of their best hockey of the season. Molly Rudd equalised and keeper Tish Edwards kept them in the game until Wilmslow managed to break through for the winner ten minutes from time.
