Match reports 13/10/18

Warrington men's second team had a hard fought 1-0 win against Winnington thanks to goalkeeper Richard Bloomfield putting in possibly the best performance of his career. Warrington got off the mark when a Billy Gilbert put a great pass through to Iain Richards who calmly chipped the ball over the keeper into the back of the net. Warrington missed several chances to put the game to bed but Bloomfield saved shot after shot and came off best in several one on ones with the Winnington strikers. The men's firsts struggled without a few of their experienced players and were grateful to Ben Vickers for scoring two minutes from time to secure a 3-3 draw with Bolton. It was a close game throughout, with no more than one goal separating the teams. Vickers opened the scoring and Adam Garrod got the second.

The women's seconds had an unfortunate 3-0 loss in their local derby against Lymm thirds. Warrington pressed from the outset, with great link up play between the strong midfield of Becky Miller, Player of the Match Kate Connolly, Lauren Hayes and Abi Hynes. Centre forward Molly Rudd was unlucky to have her effort saved off the line by a Lymm defender. Warrington came exceptionally close with several chances saved, and Warrington’s defence made it hard work for Lymm. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be Warrington’s day as Lymm managed to clinch the win through three short corner routines. The women's first team kept a skillful Brooklands-Poynton side at bay for 50 minutes until an injury to central midfielder Marian Taig reduced them to ten players and tiredness began to show. Kirsty Anderson and Nat Lyons defended strongly and Meg Sutch covered every inch of the astro to get Player of the Match, but after breaking the deadlock Brooklands went on to win 4-0.
