Match report 24/11/18

Warrington men's first team shocked league leaders Didsbury with a composed performance to beat them 2-1. Ben Vickers put Warrington ahead with a bullet-like short corner strike and Rob Powell extended the lead with a finish on his reverse side after great link up play from Scott McCue and AJ Edwards on the left. Didsbury pulled one back to make for a nervous finish but Noal Phillpotts and Nick Bottomley made some crucial interceptions in defence. The women's seconds secured a well fought 2-2 draw with Oswestry. After a great pass from Abi Hynes, Molly Rudd equalised not long before the half time whistle to make it 1-1. Warrington equalised for a second time through Jenny Fox and some fantastic saves from player of the match, goalkeeper Tracy Jackson kept Oswestry at bay. The women's first put relentless pressure on the Sale goal but couldn't find a breakthrough so had to settle for a 0-0 draw that keeps them fourth in Division 2. Ffion Harris, Kate Connolly and Meg Sutch worked hard in midfield to set up the chances but the Sale keeper made some outstanding saves to deny them. The mens seconds were unlucky not to be 2-0 up at half time against a good winnington park team. With key players missing and some of the starting 11 carrying injuries they put in a spirited performance but lost to 3 goals from short corners. Player of the Match Chris Lyon didn't stop running all game putting in one of his best performances so far.
