Match reports 12.01.19

Warrington men's first team are through to the final of the Lancashire Knockout Shield on 6th April after an exciting 2-1 semi-final win over Bury. Warrington started strongly with great play from back to front to create chances which were rewarded with a short corner goal from Ben Vickers. Bury managed to equalise but Warrington kept their heads and Jordan Penfold calmly rounded the goalkeeper to regain the lead just before half time. The defence repelled Bury's attempts until they broke through with 5 minutes to go, but keeper Roger Parr ran out and slid to hook the ball away from the striker's stick to safety. The women's seconds earned a well fought 1-1 draw against Chester thirds on Saturday having taken the lead in the first half through a well worked short corner routine between Molly Rudd and goal scorer Vicky Stoll. Warrington pressed hard and had several chances but couldn’t convert a second. Chester came back in the second half and despite Player of the Match Tish Edwards making numerous saves, Warrington couldn’t hold on for the win. The women's firsts continued their winning streak by beating Rhyl 3-0 away. The midfield and forwards worked hard to set up the victory with Steph Rawlins scoring a hat-trick. Rhyl broke through a few times but Warrington's defence of Carrie Wright, Kirsty Anderson, Dawn Harrington and Holly McCurrie closed ranks to keep them at bay. Meg Sutch was deservedly named Player of the Match.
